For this project I partnered with two other designers (Emily Marcom & Spencer Tullos) to add a charity donation feature to Venmo’s existing framework. During this time, we utilized various research tools to determine our user case, customer journey, and several other heuristics needed to understand why this feature would be valuable. Ideally we wanted users to feel secure in the use of their donations by different charity groups, to maintain the feeling it was their choice when donating. By the end of the sprint we successfully added this feature with subsequent additions such as badges to demonstrate their efforts and a system which seamlessly integrated into the current Venmo model.
Problem
Provide a digital environment for existing Venmo users to donate to charity within the current app structure, while adhering to the Venmo styleguide. Find a way to inspire donations, and eliminate the bias towards large charity organizations.
Objectives
Make donations effortless and rewarding.
Provide security for the use of user donations
Create incentives for donating.
Inspire donations without pressuring users.
Solutions
We intended to add a roundup feature similar to RideAustin’s donation feature. We wanted to provide donation buttons near transfer or balance options, and we wanted to include badges for the different charity organizations to inspire user donations.
Results
We added donation buttons within areas of the app where users were already transferring money or viewing their balance. A chart was given for each charity to show the amount raise, and badges were provided to motivate users to donate.
